Hostilities in Yemen | UNFPA Flash Update (9 – 14 September 2026)

Rapidly escalating hostilities along Yemen’s western coast and southern Taiz frontlines have displaced nearly 94, 000 people, a 135 percent increase in displacement since 8 September. The number continues to rise by the hour, with many families experiencing repeated displacement. Women and girls are among the most vulnerable and urgently need health and protection support. Continued military escalations, insecurity and impassable roads are severely constraining the humanitarian response. Intensifying violence has disrupted reproductive health and women’s protection services in the most affected Governorates, with several health facilities and women and girls safe spaces (WGSS) closed. Limited safe shelter, privacy, and sanitation along with shortages of dignity kits, are increasing protection risks, while an estimated 400 displaced pregnant women require urgent comprehensive emergency obstetric and newborn care. The UNFPA-led UN Inter-Agency Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM) remains a first line of humanitarian response and has delivered emergency relief to nearly 59, 000 individuals as of 14 September. Lack of funding is severely straining UNFPA’s ability to respond; US$22. 7 million is urgently needed to scale up the response to December 2026.
