ISLAMABAD: A local court on Thursday convicted three persons, including a Chinese national, in an online and electronic fraud case, sentencing them to five years’ imprisonment along with a fine of Rs50, 000 each. Judicial Magistrate Malik Aman, while announcing the judgment, sentenced the Chinese national, namely Bai Xiaoming, as well as Nauman Abid Malik and Hasnain Mahmood, to five years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs50, 000 under Section 420 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). The court also awarded another two years’ sentence and a fine of Rs200, 000 each under Section 14 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), 2016. The court acquitted another Chinese national, Zuo Cheng Lianga, as well as Shehzada Ayaz Latif and Hamza Shah Nawaz due to insufficient evidence and giving them the benefit of the doubt.
