KARACHI: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has completed emergency repair and replacement work on a damaged 18-inch-diameter water supply pipeline passing through a storm-water drain near Mausamiyat Chowrangi on University Road, helping safeguard water supplies to adjoining areas. According to a KW&SC spokesperson, the damaged section of the pipeline was removed and replaced with a new section, eliminating potential risks of water contamination and leakage caused by the pipeline’s proximity to the drain. The repair has also strengthened the reliability of the water supply network serving surrounding localities, particularly Blocks 6 and 7 of Gulistan-i-Jauhar. The spokesperson said the work was undertaken on an emergency basis on the special directives of KW&SC Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Ali Siddiqui and was completed late at night to minimise disruption to traffic on the busy University Road. He said the timely intervention had secured the affected section of the distribution network and reduced the risk of contamination, leakage and further damage to the pipeline. The repair forms part of KWSC’s ongoing efforts to respond promptly to faults in the city’s water supply infrastructure and maintain the continuity and safety of water services to residents.
