Basic materials, industrials lift Sri Lankan shares higher

Sri Lankan shares closed higher on Friday, after four sessions of losses, led by basic materials and industrials stocks. The CSE All-Share index settled 0. 12% higher at 21, 382. 74 points. Haycarb Plc and Cargills (Ceylon) Plc were the top index points gainers, up 9. 96 points and 6. 66 points, respectively, on the day. Trading volume on the index rose to 57. 7 million shares from 35. 1 million shares in the previous session. The equity market’s turnover dipped to 1. 13 billion Sri Lankan rupees ($3. 44 million) from 1. 45 billion rupees in the previous session, according to exchange data. Foreign investors were net sellers, offloading stocks worth 85. 1 million rupees, while domestic investors were net buyers, purchasing shares worth 1. 1 billion rupees, the data showed.
