LAHORE: The second phase of the Chief Minister’s E-Bike Scheme has been launched on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, with 432, 000 students registering for the scheme in just two days. According to Transport Secretary Imran Sikandar Baloch, applications from 265, 000 students are currently being submitted, while the processing of more than 108, 000 applications has already been completed. Students can apply for the CM Electric Bike Scheme through the official portal, bikes. punjab. gov. pk, until Oct 4. A Punjab domicile or CNIC is a basic requirement for applicants, who must be regular students of public or private degree colleges or universities recognised by the Higher Education Commission (HEC). Applicants must be at least 18 years old and possess either a learner’s permit or a motorcycle driving licence. Only one student per family will be eligible for an e-bike. Under the scheme, the down payment has been waived for students, while the Punjab government will bear the interest and insurance costs. Students receiving an electric bike will pay a monthly instalment of Rs 3, 028. The government will also provide a helmet and safety rod free of cost with each bike. Students will receive two days of training on the use of the e-bike. The chief minister has directed the authorities to ensure delivery of the electric bikes within six weeks after completion of the application process. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
