Dispatch of emergency relief aid to Nepal later this week: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday said Pakistan would dispatch emergency relief assistance to Nepal later this week to support rescue and relief operations following the recent devastating flash floods and landslides in the country. The prime minister announced the assistance during a visit to the Nepalese embassy, where he signed a condolence book in memory of those who lost their lives in the disaster. He conveyed Pakistan’s deepest sympathies to the government and people of Nepal and to the bereaved families. Sharif reiterated the sentiments he had earlier expressed to Nepalese Prime Minister Balendra Shah during a telephone conversation, reaffirming Pakistan’s solidarity with Nepal in the wake of the tragedy. He offered continued support to Nepal and expressed hope that its people would emerge stronger from the disaster. The prime minister also underscored the close and longstanding ties between Pakistan and Nepal, saying the two countries would continue to stand by each other in times of need. Nepalese Ambassador Rita Dhital, who received the prime minister, thanked him for his support and said the gesture would be long remembered by the people of Nepal.
