5.5 magnitude earthquake shakes Islamabad, Peshawar and KP

ISLAMABAD – A 5. 5 magnitude earthquake jolted Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, and various other cities, sending residents into a panic where the seismic monitoring center indicated that areas like Swat, Hangu, North Waziristan and Chitral also felt the tremors. In addition, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Peshawar also experienced noticeable shaking. The seismic center stated that the earthquake measured 5. 5 on the Richter scale, with a recorded depth of 199 kilometers. The epicenter was located in the Hindu Kush mountain region of Afghanistan, private news channel reported. Due to the quake, various areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were shaken, including Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Haripur, Malakand, Swabi, Khyber, Swat, Buner, Shangla and Chitral. Tremors were also felt in several regions of Afghanistan. Authorities confirmed that no loss of life or property has been reported so far following the earthquake.
