World Theatre Day: CM highlights role of theatre in promoting culture & peace

LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, in her special message on World Theatre Day, stated that the Punjab government is actively promoting cultural exchange and encouraging theatre artists across the province. She emphasized that initiatives are underway for the revival of theatre, along with ensuring the welfare and financial security of artists. She noted that the purpose of World Theatre Day is to highlight the importance of theatre, its artistic contributions, and its role in bringing about social change through live performances. Referring to the 2026 theme, “Theatre and a Culture of Peace, ” she underscored the role of theatre in promoting peace and harmony in society. Maryam Nawaz Sharif extended congratulations to theatre artists and enthusiasts, and shared that an Artist Support Fund has been established to assist deserving individuals, with financial aid planned for 1, 831 artists. She added that the up-gradation of theatre halls across Punjab is underway to equip them with modern facilities. She remarked that theatre is not merely a source of entertainment but a reflection of society, capable of fostering social reform and positive thinking.
