Residents urged to vacate unsafe buildings

Karachi: In view of the forecast of possible rains, Provincial Minister for Local Government, Housing & Town Planning Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has directed all officers of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) to remain present in the field and ensure proactive monitoring to safeguard public safety. The Provincial Minister issued clear instructions to Director General SBCA Muzamil Hussain Halepoto to immediately identify dangerous and dilapidated buildings across Karachi and other urban centres, and ensure strict surveillance of such structures during the expected spell of rains. He further directed that residents of unsafe and structurally weak buildings must be evacuated without delay to prevent any untoward incidents. Emphasizing the seriousness of the situation, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah urged citizens to voluntarily vacate old, unsafe, and uninhabitable buildings in the interest of their own safety. The Minister also advised the public to avoid standing near weak walls, dilapidated structures, and under-construction buildings during rainfall, warning that such negligence could result in loss of life and property. To strengthen emergency response, he directed that the Rain Emergency Centres remain fully operational round the clock, with dedicated staff available to respond to complaints and emergencies. All concerned officers have been instructed to remain on high alert and ensure immediate response and action during the rains. Citizens have been urged to report any emergency or dangerous building-related concerns through the helpline number 021-99232355 for prompt assistance. Syed Nasir Hussain Shah reiterated that protecting human lives is the top priority of the government, and no negligence will be tolerated in ensuring public safety during the rainy spell.
