LAHORE: Punjab Chief Organiser of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Aliya Hamza has been arrested in connection with multiple cases registered against her. In a social media message posted on Thursday, PTI Punjab said that Aliya Hamza had been taken into custody in Lahore and transferred to an undisclosed location. The party condemned her arrest, stating, “false cases have been filed against Aliya Hamza. She is being targeted once again under political vendetta. We strongly condemn this action. ” Reports indicate that she had travelled to Lahore specifically to celebrate Eid with her family and children when the police detained her. As of now, no official statement regarding her arrest has been issued by the authorities. Aliya Hamza was sentenced to 10 years in prison for her involvement in the May 9 riot case, and five years for other offences. Former National Assembly Speaker and senior PTI leader Asad Qaiser expressed his condemnation of the arrest on social media, claiming that she has been wrongfully implicated in false cases.
