PM speaks of ‘final objective’

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday warned that the recent surge in violence in the Middle East highlights the risks of a fragile ceasefire and could have “unbearable consequences” if restraint is not exercised. In a statement posted on X, the prime minister said Pakistan, together with “brothers and partners, ” was working earnestly to seek a peaceful diplomatic resolution to regional conflicts. “As the final objective is just about to be achieved, we sincerely urge all sides to exercise restraint and give peace a little more chance, ” he said. He added that Pakistan would continue on the path of diplomacy, which offers a greater prospect of success than “violence and destruction. ” The prime minister also noted that Pakistan is supporting dialogue efforts aimed at de-escalating regional tensions, including contacts involving the US and Iran. Since February, when tensions escalated between the US and Iran, Pakistan has positioned itself as a facilitator in regional diplomatic initiatives. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
