Petition against PM, son dismissed

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition of a bar member against the acquittal of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his son former Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz in a case of Rs 16 billion money laundering case. Earlier, the petitioner Vishal Ahmed’s counsel alleged that Shehbaz Sharif secured a favourable decision within fortnight after becoming the Prime Minister. He stated that both Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shehbaz had filed acquittal pleas before indictment which were accepted by the Special Central Court. The lawyer contended that the relief granted to the accused was without adopting proper court proceedings. He maintained that despite the presence of nearly 100 prosecution witnesses, the trial court issued its verdict without allowing the prosecution to present evidence in a serious case involving billions of rupees.
