PDP urges Muslim nations to form security alliance

KARACHI: In the present-day world where international law is being openly violated and where powerful countries attack the weaker ones without provocation, it is the need of the hour that the Muslim nations form a security alliance urgently, said Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Altaf Shakoor here Wednesday. He said Israel and the USA have attacked Iran without provocation, even when the diplomatic talks with Iran were under way. He said this negates the role of the United Nations, as well as, the international law. He said today there is no international law but the law of the jungle. He said the oil rich Muslim countries are easy prey for the USA and Israel because they are isolated, having no unity. It is a must now that all Muslim nations from Egypt, to Saudi Arabia, from Iran to Turkey, from Indonesia to Bangladesh and from UAE to Pakistan form a security alliance on urgent basis. He said whether the proposed alliance is called a ‘Muslim NATO’ or not it will surely give a strong security umbrella to the Muslim nations, saving them from the aggression of the global powers. He said Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey could play a leading role in the formation of the proposed security alliance. He welcomed Tehran’s calls for a new security bloc rooted in regional unity. He said Iran has already called on Middle Eastern nations to form a new security and military alliance that excludes both the United States and Israel, signalling a bid to reshape the region’s security architecture amid escalating conflict. Iran has proposed for the regional countries to take collective responsibility for their own defence without relying on outside powers, which is a good omen. Altaf Shakoor said that all Muslim countries should build a joint security framework grounded in shared religious and regional ties. He said that the US military bases in the Gulf region have already failed to give them peace and security and it is high time for a new Muslim nations’ security pact. He said after occupying the oil of Venezuela, the USA is now eyeing Iranian oil and gas and its next target would be oil and gas of the Arab countries. He said this is an oil war era and the oil rich Muslim nations should open their eyes. He urged all the Muslim nations to ink a broad-based security alliance without further loss of time to save them from aggression of the global powers, especially the USA. He said that Inactivation of Regional Cooperation for Development (RCD) was a serious blow to cooperation among countries in close proximity. Such initiatives taken in the past should be revived with new rigor and energy. A regional cooperation block will strengthen the economies of participating countries as new tariffs and embargoes have made WTO ineffective. Focus on making an economic block is critically important. A military alliance will automatically follow because of the development of common economic interests. A trade corridor will strengthen the supply chain to make it a competitive advantage in front of developed countries. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
