Country: Papua New Guinea Source: UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Please refer to the attached file. Papua New Guinea faces recurring humanitarian needs due to a combination of natural and human-induced hazards. Disaster events frequently happen at varying degrees, some with minimal impact and some that spike humanitarian needs. The country lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire, making it highly susceptible to earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and landslides. Tropical cyclones and flooding affect coastal and low-lying areas, while rising sea levels have forced the relocation of entire communities. Pockets of recurring or prolonged tribal conflicts and inter-communal violence in the Highlands disrupt livelihoods and continue to displace populations. These overlapping crises—exacerbated by limited infrastructure and climate change—create persistent demands for humanitarian assistance and resilience building.
