Meeting sisters: PTI slams denial of permission for IK

ISLAMABAD: The embattled Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday condemned the ongoing denial of permission for former prime minister Imran Khan to meet his sisters, calling it a violation of fundamental human and constitutional rights and urging the judiciary to enforce its orders to restore its credibility. In a statement, the party said Khan has been held in prolonged solitary confinement, which it described as a breach of internationally recognised human rights standards, including the United Nations Mandela Rules. The party said extended solitary confinement can amount to physical and psychological torture. The statement raised concerns over Khan’s deteriorating health, calling for a comprehensive medical examination, access to his personal physicians, and immediate provision of treatment. PTI said repeated attempts by Khan’s family to visit him had been blocked, causing distress and reflecting an “inhumane and unjust approach. ” PTI also said denying Khan access to his family, legal counsel, and party leadership constitutes a serious violation of due process. The party demanded his immediate access to family and lawyers, removal from solitary confinement, unrestricted medical care, and transfer to Shifa International Hospital, Islamabad, for treatment.
