ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has fixed for hearing Thursday (tomorrow) a case against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister’s Special Assistant on Information Shafiullah Jan over his alleged criticism of the electoral body related to a by-election on a National Assembly seat that was held last year. The cause list recently issued by the ECP suggested that Jan was issued the summon notice to appear before an ECP bench for the said case hearing on the coming Thursday (26th March). The case against the CM’s special assistant is based on a notice taken by the ECP over his statement aired on a YouTube channel that was allegedly critical of the ECP in relation to the by-election on NA-18 Haripur that was held around four months back, on 23rd November last year. In addition, CM KP Sohail Afridi is also facing a case related to the NA-18 by-election. On 20th November, last year, the ECP took notice of CM KP’s public speech in Havelian, a tehsil of district Abbottabad, delivered a day earlier on 19 November. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
