Sindh plans subsidy on DAP for Rabi season

KARACHI: In a move to stabilise agricultural costs, the Sindh government is considering a proposal to subsidise DAP fertiliser for the upcoming Rabi season 2026-27, aiming to protect growers from anticipated price hikes. This proposal was discussed in a second meeting of the Sindh Cabinet’s Sub-Committee on Agriculture held under the chairmanship of Provincial Minister for Agriculture, Sardar Muhammad Bux Khan Mahar. Provincial Ministers Jam Khan Shoro, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, Makhdoom Mehboob Zaman, and Chief Minister’s Special Assistant Rajveer Singh Sodho also attended. Secretary Agriculture Muhammad Zaman Narejo, along with officials from the Revenue Department, Sindh Bank, and other relevant departments, participated in the meeting. The committee reviewed various proposals and options to provide relief to farmers against the possible rise in DAP fertiliser prices during the Rabi season. On this occasion, Provincial Minister for Agriculture Sardar Muhammad Bux Khan Mahar said that multiple suggestions are being examined to ensure maximum relief for farmers. He added that further recommendations from committee members have been sought, and one or two more meetings will be held to review these proposals in detail. Provincial Minister for Irrigation Jam Khan Shoro said that in the upcoming meetings, members’ suggestions and recommendations will be finalised. He noted that the sub-committee’s final recommendations will then be presented to the Sindh Cabinet for approval. Provincial Ministers Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah and Makhdoom Mehboob Zaman emphasised that providing maximum relief to farmers is a top priority of the Sindh Government, and the government will take all possible measures to safeguard farmers’ interests.
