Lahore administration ramps up hospital safety audit efforts

LAHORE: The Lahore District Administration has ramped up its hospital safety audit efforts to ensure a secure medical environment for citizens throughout the city on Friday. Deputy Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Ali Ijaz conducted an inspection of Mayo Hospital. During his visit, he personally assessed the functionality of fire extinguishers and fire hydrants installed in the facility to verify that they are fully operational in case of an emergency. He was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Abdullah Khan, Assistant Commissioner City Rana Amir Liaquat, and officials from Rescue 1122, WASA, Punjab Communication and Works Department, and Civil Defence. The hospital administration briefed the deputy commissioner on the existing emergency response arrangements, and a live drill was performed to demonstrate the safe evacuation of patients in the event of an emergency siren. The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the professional training of hospital staff to evaluate their preparedness for real emergencies. He instructed Rescue 1122 to conduct a comprehensive survey of fire hydrants in all hospitals across the city and to submit a detailed report. Additionally, he directed the WASA to ensure that any missing equipment is installed immediately, and engaged the LESCO teams to inspect the electricity supply to prevent any potential incidents. He emphasised that there must always be unobstructed access for fire brigade vehicles at all hospitals and urged all departments to fulfil their duties with a strong sense of public service. He reiterated that safeguarding the lives and property of citizens is the district administration’s top priority and that no negligence or lapses in safety measures would be tolerated under any circumstances. He also stated that all medical centres in Lahore have the full support of the district administration to ensure a completely safe medical environment for citizens, highlighting that the administration is mobilising all available resources to further modernize and enhance the emergency response plans of hospitals across the city.
