Flash floods in Nepal: PM expresses condolences over loss of lives, destruction

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday offered Pakistan’s full support to Nepal following the loss of lives and widespread devastation caused by recent flash floods, saying Islamabad was dispatching emergency relief supplies. In a telephone conversation with Nepali Prime Minister Balendra Shah, Sharif expressed condolences over the loss of lives and destruction caused by the natural disaster. He said Pakistan stood in solidarity with the government and people of Nepal during the difficult time and assured Shah that Islamabad was ready to provide whatever assistance was required. Shah thanked Sharif for the call and for expressing solidarity with the Nepali people, and conveyed his gratitude for Pakistan’s offer of assistance. Separately, Prime Minister Sharif congratulated Barrister Iftikhar Gilani on his election as Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). He said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s victory in AJK was the result of the efforts of the party leadership, particularly Nawaz Sharif, as well as the hard work of party workers. Sharif expressed hope that Gilani would play a vigorous role in the development of AJK and the welfare of its people. Sharif pledged continued federal support for AJK’s development and prosperity, including efforts to improve living standards, while welcoming the continuation of the democratic process in the region. In a separate post on X, Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Norway’s King Harald V. He extended condolences, on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan, to the Norwegian royal family and the people of Norway. “As Norway mourns this profound loss, the people of Pakistan stand in solidarity with the bereaved family and our Norwegian friends, ” he said. Sharif said King Harald V would be remembered for his lifetime of dedicated service to his country. He also offered his thoughts and prayers to the people of Norway.
