LAHORE: A Swiss-based sustainability organisation has recognised Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s efforts to improve the environment and promote technology-driven governance, and invited her to attend and address the NST Award Gala and Summit 2026 in Hong Kong. Noble Sustainability Trust (NST) Chairman Peter Nobel has formally invited CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz to attend the global leadership summit and award gala on Sept 30. The event is expected to bring together world leaders, scientists and policymakers working on sustainable development. According to an NST report, Punjab had increasingly adopted real-time monitoring, digital platforms and data-driven systems to address environmental challenges. It said that under CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz’s leadership, the province had established technology-based systems to identify sources of pollution, assess environmental risks and improve coordination among departments in the fight against smog. The report said the provision and use of modern equipment had made air-quality management in Punjab more transparent and effective. It also noted the use of remote monitoring technology to curb illegal logging and hunting, while satellite and other modern technologies were being promoted for the protection, breeding and conservation of wildlife. In his remarks, Peter Nobel said Punjab’s progress towards technology-based governance could serve as a model for others. Established in Switzerland in 2007 by members of the Nobel family, NST works to improve the environment, reduce air pollution and enhance quality of life.
