The Nobel Sustainability Trust (NST), a Switzerland-based independent foundation established by members of the Nobel family, has invited Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to participate in its 2026 Sustainability Summit and Awards Ceremony in Hong Kong. According to a statement issued by the Punjab chief minister’s office on Thursday, the summit and awards ceremony will be held at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong on November 30. In its communication to the chief minister, the NST acknowledged Punjab’s ongoing initiatives in climate resilience, environmental protection, forestry, wildlife conservation, air quality management and technology-driven environmental governance. The foundation also recognised the growing use of real-time monitoring, digital platforms and data-driven systems in Punjab to address environmental challenges. According to the statement, Punjab has introduced technology-based systems to identify sources of pollution, assess environmental risks and improve coordination among various departments in efforts to combat smog. The NST also noted the use of modern equipment and digital systems to improve air quality management, as well as remote monitoring technology aimed at curbing illegal deforestation and poaching. The statement said satellite technology and other modern tools were also being used to support wildlife conservation, breeding and the protection of endangered species. NST Chairman Peter Nobel formally invited Maryam to participate in and address the summit and awards ceremony, describing Punjab’s progress towards technology-based governance as an example that could be followed elsewhere. The summit is expected to bring together government representatives, scientists, academics, policymakers, international institutions, business leaders, technology experts and members of the global sustainability community. The NST said Punjab’s initiatives could serve as an example for other regions facing similar environmental challenges, particularly in areas such as smog, air pollution and environmental monitoring. Established in 2007 by members of the Nobel family, the Switzerland-based Nobel Sustainability Trust is an independent foundation working to promote sustainable development, environmental improvement and efforts aimed at reducing pollution and improving quality of life.
