Karachi is set to host its first international electronic music event, with Swedish DJ and producer Axwell headlining First Light on September 19 at Moin Khan Academy (DHA Sports Club), according to a statement issued by OP Productions. Axwell, whose real name is Axel Christofer Hedfors, is a Swedish DJ and producer and a member of Swedish House Mafia. OP Productions described him as an influential figure in modern electronic music. Conceived and creatively directed by OP Productions CEO Omer H Paracha, First Light takes its name from the moment of dawn. According to the organisers, the event will combine an international headline act with a purpose-built stage, large-format visuals and a focus on audience safety and experience. Local acts Bilal Brohi and Hazey will open the event before Axwell’s headline set, the organisers said. OP Productions said Pakistan is one of the largest untapped markets in global live entertainment, citing its population of more than 240 million and young median age as factors contributing to its potential audience for international touring artists. The company said First Light is intended to become a long-term platform for bringing international touring artists to Pakistan and placing the country on the global touring map. “ First Light is about showing the world what Pakistan is ready for, ” Paracha said. “The people of Pakistan deserve the opportunity to experience events of this calibre, and as a nation we have every right to be on the global map. ” “We have the audience, the energy and the appetite for world-class live entertainment and with First Light we intend to prove to the world that Pakistan, and its people, are more than capable of hosting it, ” he added. According to the organisers, tickets are available through Ticketwala in Bronze, Silver, Gold, VIP and Platinum categories. Limited early-bird prices are available for a limited period. A dedicated Pink section has also been reserved exclusively for solo women as part of the organisers’ stated commitment to providing a safe and welcoming experience. OP Productions describes itself as a Karachi-based live-entertainment and concert-production company involved in international artist bookings, large-scale event production, marketing and ticketing.
