At least 15 newborns died after a fire broke out in the gynaecology ward of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) in Islamabad on Wednesday, rescue sources said. According to Pims officials, 16 newborns were present in the nursery when the fire broke out. Only one infant was rescued from the ward. Rescue sources said the fire started after an air-conditioner compressor exploded inside the nursery. Rescue teams were deployed to extinguish the blaze and carry out rescue efforts.
