Saudi team, PM discuss investment

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday said Pakistan was keen to transform its economic relationship with Saudi Arabia into a mutually beneficial strategic economic partnership, in line with the vision of Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman. The prime minister was speaking during a meeting with a high-level Saudi business delegation led by Prince Mansour bin Mohammad Al Saud, chairman of the Saudi-Pak Joint Business Council, which called on him. Recalling Prince Mansour’s previous visits to Pakistan, Prime minister Sharif expressed hope that the delegation’s current visit would build on earlier discussions and culminate in the signing of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and agreements across multiple sectors. READ MORE: Saudi-based group expresses interest in USD10bn investment The prime minister conveyed his regards to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, while recalling the longstanding brotherly ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. The two sides discussed ways to expand economic cooperation and investment, with the Saudi delegation expressing interest in a range of sectors, including agriculture, ports, highways, airport outsourcing, real estate, energy, power distribution and information technology. The prime minister welcomed the Saudi interest, saying it was an opportune time for enhanced collaboration between the two countries through both government-to-government and business-to-business channels. Prince Mansour thanked the prime minister for the warm reception and reaffirmed the Saudi government’s and business community’s interest in deepening business-to-business engagement with Pakistan. The Saudi delegation is also scheduled to meet senior government representatives and private-sector stakeholders during its stay in Pakistan. Federal ministers Rana Tanveer, Jam Kamal, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Attaullah Tarar, Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, Ali Pervaiz Malik, Awais Leghari and Hanif Abbasi; advisers Muhammad Ali and Haroon Akhtar; State Minister Bilal Kayani, and senior officials attended the meeting.
