SHO among 11 cops booked over raid on AGP Mansoor Awan’s house in Lahore

LAHORE: Eleven police officials, including the station house officer (SHO) of Sarwar Road police station, have been booked and charge-sheeted after they allegedly raided the residence of Attorney General for Pakistan Mansoor Awan in Lahore and harassed household staff, exceeding their lawful authority. According to the police, the SHO, Irfan, has obtained interim bail from a court. According to the FIR, a police party led by Sarwar Road SHO entered the attorney general’s residence at around 6pm on July 27 after scaling the main gate. The officials allegedly harassed employees present in the house and damaged flower pots placed outside the residence during the operation. At the time of the police raid, the attorney general was away, attending a meeting and returned home after being informed of the incident. The police say the raid was conducted on a tip-off about the alleged presence of some suspects in a neighbouring house, but the raiding team mistakenly entered the residence of the attorney general. The FIR further states that the police officials exceeded their authority while conducting the raid, prompting registration of a criminal case and initiation of departmental proceedings against them by issuing charge sheets. The attorney general’s driver, Irfan, alleged that the police team also took away the house’s CCTV recording system. He claimed the footage of the raid was deleted before the digital video recorder (DVR) was returned. Further legal and departmental proceedings are underway. Published in Dawn, July 29th, 2026
