SITUATION OVERVIEW Due to the well-marked low persisting over Madhya Pradesh & adjoining Uttar Pradesh in India, and the strong monsoon active over the North Bay, rainfall is forecasted across the Sylhet, Mymensingh, and Chattogram divisions of Bangladesh from 5–12 July 2026. The situation may be further aggravated by heavy rainfall in the adjoining upstream areas of Meghalaya, Assam, the Barak Basin, and Tripura in India. The above-normal rainfall may trigger rapid inundation and flooding in different places of the Sylhet and Chattogram Divisions The Needs Assessment Working Group (NAWG) issued the Anticipatory Impact Analysis on 08th July, followed by the first flash update#1 on 9th July 2026 and Flash Update#2. The latest update shows the rainfall has caused rising water levels and flooding in several locations across the Chattogram Hill Tracts. Landslides have been reported in Bandarban and Cox’s Bazar districts. The severely affected areas are Chattogram, CoxS Bazar, Sunamganj, Khagrachhari, Moulvibazar, Sylhet, Feni, Rangamati, Bandarban, and Cumilla. The latest update is that 1. 07 million people are affected in 10 districts. 36, 500 people are displaced and have taken shelter in 1, 7000 shelters. There are 217, 259 girls, 317, 817 women, and 12, 266 persons with disabilities reported to have been impacted by the flash flood and landslides.
