CM lauds WASA, Suthra Punjab for swift rainwater drainage

LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has termed the WASA and Suthra Punjab teams “superheroes” and directed them to remain fully alert and active in every city in view of heavy rains across the province. According to an official handout issued here on Friday, WASA and Suthra Punjab teams remained engaged in draining rainwater not only from main roads, markets and commercial centres but also from residential areas. In Gujranwala, rainwater was cleared from major roads and markets, while drainage operations in streets and neighbourhoods were also completed. Roads and commercial areas were thoroughly cleaned after the water was removed. Citizens expressed pleasant surprise at the swift clearance of markets that had been submerged under several feet of rainwater. In Lahore, WASA and Suthra Punjab teams completed drainage operations at all underpasses, roads, streets and residential localities. Rainwater was also removed from the main markets and inner streets of Fatah Garh and Baghb anpura. Drainage and cleaning operations were also completed in Kot Addu and other cities. Residents of Narowal thanked the chief minister after roads and markets, which had been submerged in knee-deep rainwater, were cleared and cleaned within a few hours. In Kasur, Wasa and Suthra Punjab teams used modern sucker machines to remove rainwater during the rainfall. Water was cleared from Kutchery Chowk, Mushtaq Colony, Zulfikar Town, Qatal Garhi, Old Lorry Stand, Railway Road and Rescue Office Road. Sialkot had witnessed a remarkable transformation in urban flood management, with areas that previously remained inundated for weeks and even months being cleared within hours. Rainwater was drained from roads, markets and commercial centres, while Defence Road, Muzaffarpur, Shahabpura, Mujahid Road, Church Road, Khadim Ali Road, Ugoki Road, Mian Shamsuddin Road and other roads were also cleared.
