Heavy monsoon rains lashed Lahore and several districts across Punjab on Tuesday, flooding roads, inundating low-lying areas and disrupting daily life, while the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) warned of possible flooding in rivers and seasonal streams. The second spell of the monsoon brought light to heavy rainfall across Lahore and other parts of the province, bringing relief from the heat but triggering urban flooding in several cities. Gujranwala received the highest rainfall in Punjab, with 250 millimetres recorded over the past 24 hours. Major roads were submerged, resembling waterways as traffic was disrupted. According to official figures, Sialkot received 94mm of rain, Jhelum 81mm, Lahore and Gujrat 48mm each, Mandi Bahauddin and Attock 37mm each, Narowal 34mm, and Chakwal 26mm. In Gujrat, continuous heavy rain submerged large parts of the city, with water accumulating up to three feet deep on several roads, creating pond-like conditions. In Wazirabad, rainfall that had continued since Sunday night stopped earlier in the day. Meanwhile, a low-level flood wave passed through the Chenab River at Head Khanki. Rawalpindi also witnessed torrential rain, with water entering homes and streets in Barwala village of the Rawat area. Residents said they faced severe difficulties as rainwater accumulated in residential areas. They claimed district administration teams had not reached the locality and were forced to remove household belongings on their own while appealing to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for assistance. In Jhelum, rain continued for eight to 10 hours, turning roads and streets into streams and affecting normal life. The PMD has warned that continued rainfall could lead to flooding in rivers and hill torrents and advised citizens to remain cautious.
