KSrelief and FCDO provide USD10 million to support WFP’S response to hunger in Yemen

Countries: Yemen, Saudi Arabia Source: World Food Programme ADEN, YEMEN – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has welcomed a USD10 million contribution from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) and the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) to support vulnerable communities in Yemen. The complementary funding will address urgent food insecurity while helping communities strengthen their resilience to future shocks. Yemen remains one of the world’s most severe hunger crises, with around half of the population facing food insecurity. More than a decade of conflict has weakened the country’s economy and disrupted livelihoods, while approximately 85 percent of food is imported, leaving families highly exposed to global price shocks. Through this partnership, KSrelief is contributing USD 5 million to support communities in Hadramawt and Al Maharah with activities that restore productive assets for smallholder farmers and improve resilience to climate shocks. These interventions aim to strengthen livelihoods and reduce reliance on humanitarian assistance over time. The United Kingdom is providing an additional USD 5 million to enable WFP to deliver cash-based transfers to families in Aden, Ad Dhale’, Lahj and Hadramawt who are facing severe food insecurity. This assistance will help households meet immediate food needs and protect livelihoods. Together, the funding will support more than 400, 000 people and reflects a shared commitment by Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom to back WFP’s efforts to address hunger and support long-term stability in the country.
