UN humanitarian cargo to Afghanistan: MoFA grants NOC for transit through Torkham

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has granted permission for the transit of UN humanitarian cargo to Afghanistan through the Torkham border crossing point, said an official notification here on Monday. The approval follows requests submitted by the UN Resident Coordinator in letters dated May 25 and July 7, 2026, addressed to the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, seeking facilitation for the movement of humanitarian supplies destined for Afghanistan. According to the Foreign Office communication, the ministry does not have any objection to the transit of the UN humanitarian cargo from the land route of Pakistan via Torkham. The document further noted that the decision has been issued with the approval of the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister. The communication, dated July 9, 2026, was sent to the Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, with copies forwarded to senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Commerce for information and necessary coordination. It is to be mentioned here that the permission has been granted in pursuance of the Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister’s approval. The clearance is expected to facilitate the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan through Pakistan’s transit corridor. It was learnt that several UN vehicles are queued up at the Torkham border, awaiting clearance for entry from Afghanistan’s Taliban regime. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
