Railways Police foil smuggling of non-duty-paid goods

LAHORE: On the directions of Inspector General Railways Police, Muhammad Wisal Fakhar Sultan, Railways Police Sukkur carried out a major operation against the smuggling of non-duty-paid goods through trains and recovered merchandise worth millions of rupees. The timely action successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle non-custom-paid goods to various parts of the country. According to details, under the supervision of the SP Railways Sukkur, the DSP A&B conducted a thorough inspection of the luggage van of the Jaffar Express at Rohri Railway Station. During the search, a large quantity of non-duty-paid goods booked under the names of Syed Cargo, Pak Sons Cargo, and the Railway Mail Service (RMS) was recovered. The seized items included blankets, cosmetics, medicines, chocolates, shopping bags, imported fabric, almonds, kitchen appliances, auto parts, and other valuable goods that were being transported by train to different parts of the country. Preliminary investigations indicate that the consignment was allegedly being transported with the connivance of certain officials of the Customs Department, Quetta, and some railway personnel. However, Railways Police acted promptly and successfully foiled the smuggling attempt. The recovered goods have been jointly documented through a seizure certificate and shifted to the Customs Warehouse Sukkur for further legal proceedings. Inspector General Railways Police, Muhammad Wisal Fakhar Sultan, commended the Railways Police Sukkur team for their successful operation. He stated that the smuggling of non-duty-paid goods through the railway network will not be tolerated under any circumstances. He further reaffirmed that strict legal action will continue against all individuals involved in activities causing loss to the national exchequer, without any discrimination.
