14 children killed as tuition centre roof collapses in Lahore

At least 14 children died after the roof of a tuition centre collapsed in Lahore’s Kahna area on Tuesday, according to sources, even as rescue teams worked to pull survivors from the rubble. The roof of the tuition centre caved in suddenly, trapping a large number of children beneath the debris. Rescue 1122 said initial reports had put the number of trapped children at eight to ten, but it later emerged that around 30 children were present at the centre at the time of the collapse. Rescue officials said relief teams had pulled 15 children from the rubble and shifted all of them to hospital, with four to five children reported to be in critical condition. Injured children were moved to Lahore General Hospital for treatment. According to Rescue 1122, the roof of the affected room had been constructed using T-iron girders, which gave way without warning. Rescue 1122 teams reached the site shortly after the incident and launched an immediate operation, with rescuers continuing efforts to safely extract children still trapped under the debris.
