Dentists in Sindh to get up to Rs10 million financial assistance under PDA-SEDF initiative

KARACHI: The Pakistan Dental Association (PDA) has announced a financial assistance programme for dental surgeons in Sindh, offering loans of up to Rs10 million to support clinic establishment, practice expansion, equipment purchase and hospital-related projects. According to a circular issued by PDA, the initiative is being offered in collaboration with the Sindh Enterprise Development Fund (SEDF) and is structured under a 70/30 debt-to-equity arrangement. The programme is designed to help dental professionals strengthen their practices, improve access to oral healthcare services and support entrepreneurship within the dental sector. Under the scheme, eligible dental surgeons may apply for loans ranging from Rs500, 000 to Rs10 million. The KIBOR component of the loan will be covered by SEDF, while dental surgeons will be required to repay only the principal amount within a maximum period of three years. The PDA said the initiative aims to support the establishment and expansion of dental clinics, the purchase of dental equipment and paraphernalia, and the construction or development of hospital-related facilities. The programme is expected to be particularly relevant for young dentists seeking to begin independent practice, as well as senior dental surgeons planning to upgrade or expand existing setups. Priority consideration will be given to female dental surgeons, with PDA stating that the initiative is intended to enhance women dentists’ access to financial support and professional growth opportunities. The move may help encourage more female dental professionals to enter independent practice, upgrade clinical facilities and expand oral healthcare services in underserved areas. At present, the financial assistance programme is being offered in Sindh province. PDA has also stated that it is working to obtain similar financial assistance programmes for dental surgeons from other provinces, indicating a broader effort to improve financing access for dentists across Pakistan. Dentists from all districts of Sindh are eligible to apply. However, special emphasis has been placed on priority districts including Tharparkar, Sujawal, Larkana, Thatta and Badin. These areas have significant potential for improved dental care access, particularly where private dental clinics, modern equipment and specialist oral healthcare services may remain limited. Interested applicants have been advised to submit a brief outline of their proposed project, dental clinic or hospital setup, along with their curriculum vitae and a copy of their CNIC to the Pakistan Dental Association through email at pakistandentalassociation1@gmail. com. The announcement has been signed by Dr Mahmood Shah (S. I.), President of the Pakistan Dental Association. PDA described the programme as a significant opportunity for entrepreneurship, self-reliance and practice upgradation for both young and senior dental surgeons. The initiative comes at a time when dental professionals in Pakistan often face high startup costs, expensive equipment requirements and limited access to affordable financing. Dental chairs, imaging systems, sterilisation equipment, clinical instruments, infection prevention infrastructure and clinic development costs can create major barriers for dentists planning to launch or modernise their practices. By linking dental practice development with structured financial support, the PDA-SEDF initiative may help strengthen the private dental care network in Sindh, support employment generation and improve patient access to oral healthcare services, especially in smaller cities and priority districts. Applicants are advised to review the requirements carefully and confirm final eligibility, repayment conditions and documentation details with PDA and the relevant programme authorities before submission.
