The Punjab government has earmarked Rs5. 35 billion for the establishment and development of medical colleges and teaching hospitals across the province, 24NewsHD TV reported on Tuesday. According to the proposed budget documents, a major initiative for the rehabilitation and improvement of student hostels at medical colleges has also been included. The project carried an estimated cost of Rs2 billion, while Rs385 million has been allocated for the upcoming fiscal year. The government has set aside Rs306 million for the revamping of the Outpatient Department (OPD) at Lahore’s Mayo Hospital, a project with a total estimated cost of Rs3 billion aimed at improving healthcare facilities and patient services. To enhance emergency healthcare infrastructure, Rs70 million has been allocated for the installation of lifts in the Emergency and Gynecology blocks of Services Hospital. Meanwhile, Rs105 million has been earmarked for the implementation of a Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) at Jinnah Institute of Cardiology, aimed at improving digital healthcare management and operational efficiency. The budget also included the much-awaited Kalsoom Nawaz Cancer Hospital project in Dera Ghazi Khan. The cancer hospital is estimated to cost around Rs15. 25 billion, while an initial allocation of Rs800 million has been proposed in the budget to begin work on the project.
