Purpose This analysis is designed as an early warning evidence brief for WFP decision-making. Its purpose is to document and compare the observed food security impacts of two El Niño episodes (2015/16 and 2023/24) in a way that supports operational action, specifically by identifying: (i) the regions most affected, (ii) main impact on livelihood, (iii) the worst affected countries. This is a structured review of what is explicitly documented in authoritative sources, intended to inform monitoring priorities, trigger selection, and readiness planning. Methodology The study examines the main impacts of the 2015/16 and 2023/24 El Niño events on drought, flooding, displacement, and the agriculture sector. Analyzing these two El Niño events may provide useful insights into the types of challenges that could emerge during a future El Niño episode in each region. The study will focus on the worst-affected countries based on the following criteria: • Severity of impacts • Number of people affected • Level of food insecurity
