Rs1bn recovery: Kissan Board seeks high-ups’ intervention

LAHORE: The Kissan Board Pakistan (KBP) has called for the immediate intervention of top civil and military leadership over alleged non-payment of nearly Rs 1 billion to farmers by a certain individual, terming the situation “unbearable” and demanding swift justice and recovery of the outstanding amounts. KBP President Sardar Zafar Hussain Khan, Senior Vice President Chaudhry Manzoor Gujjar, Chaudhry Akhtar Farooq and others at a press conference said that farmers and landowners had suffered severe financial losses at the hands of an individual accused of withholding approximately one billion rupees belonging to growers. They alleged that the affected farmers have been running from pillar to post for several years to recover their hard-earned money, while the accused person is reportedly intimidating victims by claiming close family links with high-ranking state officials and issuing serious threats. The leaders urged Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Chief Justice of Pakistan, and the Chairman NAB to take immediate notice of the matter, ensure protection of the affected farmers, and facilitate recovery of their funds. They also demanded strict legal action against those responsible and ensure full repayment of every rupee owed to the victims. They further stressed that farmers are already under severe financial stress due to inflation, the agricultural crisis, and rising costs of electricity, diesel, and fertilisers. In such conditions, any form of financial exploitation of growers is “completely unacceptable. ” The leadership warned that if immediate justice is not provided, the Kisan Board Pakistan reserves the right to launch a countrywide legal, public, and protest movement.
