Siniakova, Townsend continue dominance with French Open doubles crown

PARIS – World No. 1 doubles pair Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend reinforced their status as the leading team in women’s doubles by capturing their first French Open title together with a commanding victory at Roland Garros on Sunday. The top-seeded duo defeated second seeds Anna Danilina and Aleksandra Krunic 6-2, 7-5 on Court Philippe-Chatrier, sealing the championship in one hour and 32 minutes and adding another major title to their growing partnership. The triumph further enhanced Siniakova’s glittering legacy in doubles tennis. The Czech star secured her 11th Grand Slam women’s doubles crown and a fourth French Open title. Her previous Roland Garros successes came alongside Barbora Krejcikova in 2018 and 2021, and with Coco Gauff in 2024, highlighting her remarkable consistency across different partnerships. For Townsend, the victory represented a career milestone. The American claimed her maiden French Open title after narrowly missing out in 2023 when she finished runner-up alongside Leylah Fernandez. The success also underlined her emergence as one of the premier doubles players on the WTA Tour. The world No. 1 pair controlled much of the final, combining powerful serving, sharp net play and excellent teamwork to keep their opponents under constant pressure before closing out the match in straight sets. Speaking after the victory, Townsend paid tribute to Siniakova and reflected on the strong bond they have developed during their two-and-a-half years together on tour. “Two and a half years has been so much fun, ” Townsend said. “Getting to know you on and off the court, getting to know your family and everyone who supports you has been special.
