LAHORE: Flour milling industry of Punjab has resolved not to stock wheat till the provincial government achieves its procurement target. However, they demanded that flour millers should be issued adequate permits for inter-provincial transportation of flour so that their investments are not affected. The unanimous decision was taken at a meeting of the executive committee of Pakistan Flour Mills Association Punjab chapter met under the chairmanship of Riaz Ullah Khan. The participants held detailed discussions on the new wheat crop, the availability of wheat and flour in the market, and the procurement of strategic wheat reserves by flour mills and the government. The meeting reaffirmed that the flour milling industry agrees with government policies and stands shoulder to shoulder with the government for their implementation. The committee unanimously decided that since the government has started wheat procurement, flour mills will refrain from stockpiling wheat until the government achieves its procurement target. It noted that all legal wheat purchases made by flour mills so far have been declared on the web portal. It said flour mills will obtain permits for wheat purchases in accordance with their daily grinding capacity so that the government’s procurement target can be achieved. The participants also demanded that until the government target is met, flour mills should be issued adequate permits for inter-provincial transportation of flour so that their investments are not adversely affected. The meeting was attended by Patron-in-Chief Haji Muhammad Ibrahim, Group Leader Asim Raza Ahmad, former chairmen Liaqat Ali Khan, Mian Muhammad Riaz, Chaudhry Abdul Rauf, Mian Anjum Ishaq, Chaudhry Iftikhar Ahmad Mattoo and Tahir Hanif Malik, along with a large number of flour mill owners from across the province.
