Eid Al Adha is expected to begin on May 27 in the UAE, according to astronomical calculations released by Emirati astronomer Ibrahim Al Jarwan, though the dates remain subject to official moon-sighting confirmations. Al Jarwan, chairman of the Emirates Astronomy Society and a member of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences, said the crescent moon marking the start of Dhu Al Hijjah is forecast to be born on May 17 at 12: 01 am UAE time. He said the moon is expected to set about 58 minutes after sunset that day and appear roughly 10 degrees above the horizon, conditions that could make the crescent visible. Based on the calculations, May 18 is likely to mark the first day of Dhu Al Hijjah 1447 AH, placing Arafat Day on May 26 and Eid Al Adha on May 27. Islamic months are determined by the lunar calendar, and official religious authorities in many Muslim-majority countries confirm key dates through moon sightings.
