Afghan border situation: FO rubbishes Lindsay’s remarks

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Saturday rubbished UK’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Richard Lindsay’s statement about the situation at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, stating the one-sided remarks are devoid of a deeper understanding of the situation along the border. In response to a Tweet posted by the UK’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Richard Lindsay, about the situation at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, the Foreign Office (FO) stated that the statement was lacking a proper understanding of the situation. All possible measures should be taken to protect civilians and prevent an escalation. I reiterate my calls for restraint and dialogue, including in my meetings in Afghanistan this week, ” Lindsay posted. In response to media queries regarding a social media post by the British official, FO Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi, stated, “We have seen the social media post by the British SRA regarding developments along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border. ” Cross-border aggression and terrorist infiltration attempts from the Afghan side have continued unabated despite Pakistan’s goodwill gesture of a temporary pause, announced in March 2026. Since then, he noted that indiscriminate and unprovoked cross-border attacks by the Afghan Taliban, and terrorist activities by Afghan Taliban-supported Indian proxies inside Pakistan, have resulted in the shahadat of 52 civilians and 84 injuries. Pakistan, while exercising restraint, has responded effectively by precisely targeting Afghan Taliban posts and terrorist support infrastructure, while also thwarting multiple infiltration attempts from the Afghan side. Afghan claims of civilian casualties due to Pakistan’s responses lack evidential credibility. “Such unwarranted remarks, without linking them to the root cause of terrorism, do not offer a balanced and objective perspective, ” Andrabi further added. We urge a better understanding of regional dynamics, Pakistan’s principled stance, as well as the unparalleled sacrifices rendered by the people of Pakistan in the fight against terrorism, the spokespeople highlighted. Mr. Andrabi clarified that there is no temporary ceasefire in place. There was only a time barred three days pause at Eid and it was over at that time. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
