Motorcyclists, goods transport: Govt decides to continue providing relief

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday extended fuel subsidies for motorcyclists, public transport operators, and goods transporters for another month amid rising economic pressures on households. The extension forms part of the government’s efforts to shield citizens from mounting economic pressures arising from regional instability in the Middle East. In a statement, the prime minister emphasised that increases in passenger and freight fares would be prevented during the extension period. The prime minister also expressed hope that regional conditions would stabilise soon, which could help ease pressures on petroleum prices and, in turn, the broader economy. Earlier this month, the prime minister unveiled the initial fuel subsidy programme aimed at easing operational costs for key segments of the transport sector. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
