Lebanon: Canadians step up to deliver life-saving aid across the Middle East

Countries: Lebanon, Syrian Arab Republic Source: Humanitarian Coalition With support from Canadians, our members provided critical assistance to more than 23, 000 people During the recent escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, Canadians donated to the Middle East Emergency Fund to rush life-saving assistance to families in Lebanon, Syria and the wider region affected by the war. The Humanitarian Coalition, which brings together 12 of Canada’s leading aid organizations, launched a national fundraising appeal that ran from March 16 to April 1, 2026. “As a coalition, we strongly believe in the power of the collective,” said Tiffany Baggetta, Executive Director of the Humanitarian Coalition. “Collaboration among aid organizations, support from our community and media partners and the generosity of Canadians from coast to coast to coast enabled our members to expand relief efforts where they were needed most. We are deeply grateful for everyone’s contribution.” Humanitarian Coalition member organizations have been at work together with local partners across Lebanon, Syria and the wider region, providing food, clean water, emergency health services, temporary shelter, cash assistance and psychosocial support. These funds enabled relief efforts to continue and expand, with a focus on families who were newly and repeatedly displaced in Lebanon. Across Lebanon, our members have: Expanded urgent food assistance by distributing food parcels, ready-to-eat meals, bread, vouchers, and both dry and fresh food supplies. Provided education services, namely by supporting temporary learning spaces and distributing educational and recreational kits. Improved hygiene and water access by supplying shelter cleaning kits, conducting hygiene sessions and delivering emergency water to communities. The Humanitarian Coalition continues to urge leaders to end the violence in the region and seek a permanent resolution that upholds the rights, dignity and safety of all people. We renew our call for all parties to respect international humanitarian law and ensure safe, unhindered access to humanitarian aid throughout the region.
