Great Wall Motor (GWM), in partnership with Sazgar Engineering Works Limited, has commenced local assembly of its Tank 500 PHEV in Pakistan. The development makes Pakistan the first market outside China where the model is being assembled, highlighting the company’s increasing focus on the local automotive sector. The announcement was made at a Gala celebrating 5 years of GWM in Pakistan, and was attended by industry stakeholders, government officials, and automotive enthusiasts. The ceremony was attended by the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Industries & Production, along with Mr. Sun Yan, Consul General of China. At the event, CEO of SAZGAR, Mian Asad Hameed, emphasized the importance of local assembly and long-term investment in Pakistan. Company representatives also highlighted growing consumer interest in hybrid vehicles and SAZGAR’s continued focus on customer-centricity. Positioned as GWM’s flagship SUV, the Tank 500 combines plug-in hybrid technology, creating a fusion between both on-road comfort and strong off-road capability. The model has already seen unprecedented success in market, with over 5, 000 bookings reported within the first two months of its launch, breaking all previous records in premium SUV segment of market. GWM entered the Pakistani market five years ago and has since expanded its presence in the SUV segment. Models such as the Haval H6 have dominated the SUV market across major cities, contributing to the GWM’s meteoric rise in Pakistan. The local assembly of the Tank 500 is part of a broader push toward expanding GWM’s CKD lineup in Pakistan. Over the past few years, the company has introduced multiple locally assembled variants as part of its localization strategy. With the addition of hybrid and plug-in hybrid models, GWM now offers the largest New Energy Vehicle (NEV) line up in Pakistan.
