Nuclear safety and security: President vows to maintain highest standards

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of nuclear safety and security. In a message on International Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day, being observed Sunday, the president said Pakistan supports international efforts that promote responsible conduct, strengthen safeguards and reduce the risk of incidents like Chernobyl disaster. Asif Ali Zardari said nuclear safety requires consistent discipline and strong oversight with a clear understanding of the risks involved. In a separate message, President Asif Ali Zardari strongly condemned the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) Dinner. In a statement, he expressed satisfaction that President Donald Trump and the First Lady remained safe. The president said the incident is a heinous form of terrorism and worth condemning.
