The government has raised petrol and high-speed diesel prices by Rs26. 77 per litre effective April 25. Petrol now costs Rs393. 35 per litre up from Rs366. 58 while diesel has increased to Rs380. 19 from Rs353. 42. The hike driven by a petroleum levy increase to Rs107. 4 per litre under IMF-linked fiscal measures is expected to trigger inflation across transport and essential goods.
