Mother confesses to killing three children in Lahore, police say

Police in Lahore say a woman has confessed to killing her three young children in a case that initially appeared to be a blind murder in the city’s Ichhra area. According to investigators, the suspect admitted during interrogation that she carried out the killings and then attempted to mislead authorities by blaming her mother-in-law. The bodies of two girls, aged five and four, and a one-and-a-half-year-old boy were discovered in a residential flat with their throats slit. The incident had triggered widespread shock and prompted an extensive investigation. Police officials said the mother’s role appeared suspicious from the outset. As the probe progressed, inconsistencies in statements and accumulating evidence strengthened suspicions against her. Authorities said the suspect staged events after the crime to present herself as innocent. She reportedly left the house on the pretext of visiting a medical store and later called her husband, asking him to return home. Upon returning, she allegedly attempted to divert attention and initially accused her mother-in-law of involvement in the killings. Investigators believe a domestic dispute the previous night may have been the motive behind the crime. The case saw multiple family members, including the children’s uncle, aunt and grandmother, taken into custody during the investigation due to conflicting statements. A key breakthrough came after police obtained CCTV footage from around the building. Forensic analysis showed the children’s uncle leaving the premises after the parents had reportedly gone to the market, followed shortly by the mother returning to the flat. Officials also claimed to have found evidence suggesting the crime scene had been tampered with in an attempt to alter the narrative. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed grief over the incident and ordered the immediate arrest of those involved, stating that those responsible would not escape the law. The Inspector General of Punjab also took notice of the case, seeking a report from the Lahore Capital City Police Officer and directing the DIG Operations to ensure swift action. Police said all available resources and modern investigative techniques are being used to uncover the full facts of the case.
