IOM Nigeria Flash Report #284: Population Displacement – North-west Nigeria – Zamfara State – Conflict/Violence (20 April 2026)

On 15 April 2026, an armed bandit attack occurred in the community of Gegeta in Gabake Ward of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area (LGA), Zamfara State. According to key informants, the attack displaced 722 individuals from 136 households to the community of Gidan Dan Maliki Bayan Tasha in S/Baura S/Mafara Ward. The displaced population included 404 children, 176 women and 142 men. One injury was reported as a result of the attack. Following the incident, Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) field staff conducted rapid assessments on 15 April 2026 to inform the humanitarian community, as well as the government and partners, and to enable a more targeted response. Food, non-food items (NFIs), water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), and shelter were the most prevalent needs identified.
