US-Iran talks: Naqvi, envoys discuss regional situation, security setups

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Monday held separate meetings with Natalie Baker and Dr Reza Amiri Moghadam, during which they discussed the regional situation and security arrangements for the second round of Iran–US peace talks. In his meeting with the US Ambassador, both sides held detailed discussions on the latest situation in the region and reviewed security arrangements for the second round of talks in Islamabad. The US envoy appreciated Pakistan’s sincere role in reducing tensions in the region, according to an official statement issued here. Naqvi briefed the Ambassador on the security measures put in place for the talks, stating that special arrangements have been made for all distinguished guests. He expressed hope for the success of the second round of negotiations. The Interior Minister also met the Iranian Ambassador, and both sides discussed in detail the arrangements for the second phase of the Islamabad talks. The meeting emphasized the need for a sustainable solution through diplomatic and negotiation channels to reduce tensions. Naqvi also briefed the Iranian Ambassador on his recent visit to Iran. The Iranian envoy appreciated Pakistan’s positive and constructive role in de-escalating tensions in the region, the statement said. Interior Minister said that preparations for the second phase of the Islamabad talks have been completed and that foolproof security arrangements have been made for foreign delegations. He added that Pakistan–Iran relations span decades and are valued as brotherly ties. He reiterated that Pakistan advocates resolving the Iran–US conflict through dialogue and stressed that a lasting solution is essential for regional stability and peace. Senior officials, including the Chief Commissioner of Islamabad, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad, and Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), were also present at the meetings.
