PFA imposes Rs170,000 fines on four food points

LAHORE: Enforcement teams of the Punjab Food Authority carried out operations at Civic Centre and Defence Road areas on Saturday and inspected 73, 200 litres of milk transported in 49 supplier vehicles, while fines amounting to Rs170, 000 were imposed on four food points over violations. The food safety teams set up strict checkpoints at entry points of Lahore to ensure the quality of milk being supplied into the city. Inspections at food points revealed storage of food in fungus-infested and foul-smelling freezers, along with dirty floors and contaminated water. DG PFA Muhammad Asim Javaid said that food items were being prepared using poor hygiene practices and reused oil, while mandatory purchase and oil change records were also not maintained. He said that medical certificates and food safety training for food handlers are mandatory for operating a food business. He said that food business operators must comply with PFA laws to ensure provision of safe and nutritious food. He further stated that strict action will continue against violators, maintaining a zero-compromise policy on food quality. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
