Lahore railway station: Yasin says drop lanes to be set up

LAHORE: Punjab Housing and Urban Development Minister Bilal Yasin has said that drop lanes and parking areas will be established at the Lahore railway station entrance in an international style. He disclosed this during his visits to various ongoing development project sites here on Saturday, including Data Darbar, the Bhati Gate Extension Project, Nasir Bagh, Circular Road, and the Railway Station. On this occasion, Lahore Development Authority (LDA) DG Tahir Farooq, Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning Agency (TEPA) Chief Engineer Iqrar Hussain, and LDA Chief Engineer Israr Saeed briefed the Minister about the projects. According to the Minister, construction of the Bhati Chowk Underpass has commenced, encompassing over 65 kanals of land for the project. The Data Darbar expansion will feature fountains and Islamic verses in model calligraphy, creating a modern facility for pilgrims. The construction of a 3-lane underpass at Bhati Chowk is expected to significantly improve traffic flow. The minister also directed immediate actions to enhance traffic movement from Bhati Chowk to MAO College. He noted that the development work on the Nasir Bagh Underground Parking Plaza is progressing well, with extensive parking projects aimed at improving traffic flow and eliminating encroachments. He praised the performance of the LDA DG for acquiring 22 kanals of land to be included in the railway station parking area. He also noted that upgrading the facades of properties around the railway station and along Circular Road will enhance the area’s aesthetic appeal. He emphasised the need to eliminate encroachments and dust from the entrance routes to Lahore, facilitating pedestrians throughout the city, he added. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
